User roles explained

Enable your colleagues to perform the tasks they need

Updated over 5 months ago

Logistics is a team sport! And as in every team, there are different roles to play. Let’s review Roles in Cargosnap.

First of all, there is a distinct difference between a “DEVICE” and a “USER”, as you can probably imagine:

Device

A device should be created to allow someone to use their phone or tablet (“device”) to add information such as photos, documents or fill in forms into Cargosnap. Providing the device thus does nothing more than giving that capability. This role is typically given to the warehouse employees, drivers and other surveyors, possibly in combination with a user role.

User

A user gives someone access to the Cargosnap platform. User access is typically given to those handling administration, claims, customer support, and those who will set up and manage the configurations.

💡 Note: In order to manage roles and permissions, you need an Admin role, such as SuperAdmin or LicenseAdmin.

Okay, on to the various user roles!

Roles

There are 5 roles you can define for each USER you give access to Cargosnap:

  • Viewer - can view freely but not change or share any data in Cargosnap (for their own team, or all, as decided by their administrator). You can have unlimited viewers for your Cargosnap account. This can be a very useful functionality, ideal for consultative roles. To learn more about it, click here.

  • User – can use Cargosnap in all ways related to the records stored in the platform (see more in the Permissions article), but is not able to add/remove devices or employees, nor does this role have access to the company-wide settings such as creating/adjusting Workflows and Forms. This is the most common role, for consultative and analytical profiles, and is the recommended default role.

  • Manager – can add and remove other users and devices within their own team only. This role does not have company-wide settings access (e.g. to create forms and workflow). The role is handy for delegating Employee and Device administration to remote teams, for example.

  • SuperAdmin – A SuperAdmin has permissions to see and update every setting in Cargosnap, both on any individual team, as well as all company-wide settings such as forms and workflow management.

  • LicenseAdmin – Responsible for managing the overall Cargosnap license and acts as the main point of contact for licensing matters. This role has the same permissions as a SuperAdmin, along with access to the Billing page for subscription management and related tasks, such as invoicing.
